A) Computer Related
Problem (Software)
If you can ping 66.207.234.1 then your DSL is working properly. If
you can ping 66.207.234.1 as described above but cannot connect to the
Internet, the problem is in your computer. Make sure that your browser
and email program are using a local area network connection for
Internet connectivity (Check Setup Of Applications.) If you get an
illegal exception or error when connecting to the Internet and you can
ping 66.207.234.1 the problem is still in your computer.
ISP Related Problem
If you can ping 66.207.234.1 and get online fine but have problems
with sending and receiving email, then you will need to contact the ISP
to setup email or check status of account. (Active or Disabled)
B) Internet Explorer Connect Using LAN Connection
This can be set for Internet Explorer by going to
"start>settings>control panel". Once in control panel double click the
icon labeled "Internet" or "Internet Options". When the window opens
select the "Connection" tab at the top of the page. You should set this
to"never dial a connection" and remove all dial-up connections listed in
the box. Now select the button at the bottom labeled "LAN Settings".
When the "LAN Settings" window opens make sure that nothing is checked
in any of the boxes, then click "OK" and then "OK again.
Outlook Express Connect Using LAN Connection
Outlook Express can be set up by selecting the tools menu after
you start up Outlook Express. Then select accounts. When "Internet
Accounts" window opens select the "Mail" tap and highlight your account
listed in the box. Now click "Properties". Account properties window
will open, then select the "Connection" tab at the top. Click the down
arrow at the right side and select "Local Area Network" as the
connection. Click the box beside "Always Connect To This Account Using"
put a check in it. Click "Apply" at the bottom. If "Apply" is grayed out
just click "OK". Now click "Close" to finish making changes.
