Frame Relay is a high-speed data circuit. This application is best used over Wide Area Networks (WAN). Frame Relay offers lower costs and higher performance for these applications other than traditional point-to-point services. Frame Relay is a "fast packet" network service that permits the transmission
of data at speeds up to 1.544 Mbps using Permanent Virtual Circuits.
Permanent Virtual Circuits are logical units that define a specific path for
data sent by the customer to another location. Frame Relay is a robust and
highly secure means of transmitting data over a Wide Area Network.
